For example - within the Extra x 2 foods category, products must fall below levels of 600 kilojoules per serve. Kids Connect encourages no more than 2 serves of Extra x 2 foods per day. Children who are active can eat and drink more than children who are less active Saturated FatsKids Connect set limits on saturated fats in select product categories. Saturated fats can increase the risk of heart disease and so their consumption should be limited. (Dietary Guidelines For Children and Adolescents in Australia, 2003) SugarsKids Connect set limits on sugar content within select product categories and supports and encourages the use of "no added sugar products". Kids Connect encourages children to brush their teeth or rinse their mouth with water after eating, in order to reduce the risk of dental caries. FibreKids Connect encourages the use of products which are a good source of fibre, especially unprocessed foods, for example fresh fruit and vegetables. Fibre is essential for children's good intestinal health along with drinking adequate amounts of water. CalciumKids Connect supports that eating 3 serves of dairy every day as part of a balanced diet will provide most people with the recommended RDI of calcium. One serve of dairy is equal to: SodiumKids Connect encourages the use of 'salt reduced' products and the general rule of removing the salt shaker from the table.
HEALTHCARE Our policy and approach within the Kids Connect Healthcare category is that all pharmaceutical products accredited by Kids Connect must provide (TGA) Therapeutic Goods Administration registration and must be assessed by panel practitioners. BABY & TODDLER All baby & toddler hardware products must meet Australian Safety Standards for submission to the Kids Connect Accreditiation program. Each product is then assessed by the panel for key product features and benefits contributing to convenience, design innovation and functionality that may stand them apart from other products within the same category. LIFESTYLE & LEARNING All products and services accredited within this category must have an educational, developmental or safety benefits that stand them apart from other products within the same category. All DVD and Film entertainment products submitted for accredition must meet suitable classification codes for children - G or PG. LEISURE & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY All products and services accredited within this category must deliver physical activity benefits to your child and encourage healthy and safe play. | |
